Troy Hess from Provo, Utah

Troy Hess is the youngest of five kids.  He loves playing volleyball, pickleball, spike ball, hiking, rollercoasters, and the beach. As a junior at Brigham Young University, Troy is studying biochemistry and maintains a 4.0 GPA. He’s been listed on the BYU College of Physical and Mathematical Sciences Dean’s List each semester, and earlier this year (2024) was awarded the ACS Outstanding Analytical Sophomore award.  Additionally, Troy served a full-time, two-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Recife, Brazil where he became fluent in Portuguese, shared messages about Jesus Christ, and participated in various service projects. Though he grew to love the lively and warm-hearted Brazilian people, he was saddened to see how many of them live with untreated diseases due to a lack of reasonable access to medicine in third world conditions.  It was during this time that Troy realized he wanted to become a physician so he can perform humanitarian work and help those who can’t help themselves, and in turn, Living Like Luc and serving the greater world community.  He currently works in a research lab studying chemotaxis with microfluidic devices and is developing more precise methods to measure cell migration.  Troy’s dream is to complete medical school and pursue a career in cardiology.
