Gabriela Huber from New York City, New York
Gabriela Huber was born in Chile and came to the US when she was eight years old. She was raised in New York City where she learned the English language and slowly adapted to the American culture. After high school, she attended CUNY LaGuardia Community College where she obtained her Associate’s in Arts with a concentration in Secondary Education. In 2017, she moved to Killeen, Texas where she continued her undergrad in English. She graduated with her Bachelor of Arts in the Fall of 2020 from Texas A&M University – Central Texas. Gabriela decided to further her education at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and obtained her Master of Education. Through this program, she was also able to complete her teacher certification in English grades 4-8. She was hired at the same school she attended for her student teaching – Rancier Middle School and she is finishing her second year of teaching. She found great passion working with middle school students, particularly at a Title I campus. She soon realized that these students face many challenges outside of school and knew she was in the right place to truly make a difference. Her position as a teacher is one that she takes great pride in and one she wishes to continue to make an impact in. She is now looking forward to continuing her education by obtaining her Doctor of Education in Educational Administration Higher Education program at University of Mary Harding-Baylor. She wishes to continue to work with minority students and truly serve as a voice for these underrepresented students. She is the surviving spouse of SPC Daniel De Hoyos and it is her life’s mission to continue to honor his memory. Her late husband instilled the importance of courage, forgiveness and to follow every dream, no matter how big or impossible it might be. His passing taught her the painful lesson of how fragile and fleeting life is, and it is important to live it to its fullest capacity.
