Daniela Salas-Sonsteng from UC Davis, California

Daniela Salas-Sonsteng is a University of California Davis student majoring in Wildlife, Fish, and Conservation Biology; she has a strong passion for protecting ecosystems and the species that depend on them. She enjoys being outdoors and appreciates the natural world and partakes in activities such as hiking, snowboarding, biking, and swimming, among other things. Daniela does her best to prioritize time with family and community and actively volunteers in events or with groups such as the U.S. Forest Service to help endangered species. She also participates in community activities like Luc’s Run or teaching art classes in retirement homes. Through her education, she hopes to contribute to conservation efforts that restore habitats, support wildlife populations, and promote long-term environmental sustainability. Receiving the Live Like Luc Scholarship is especially meaningful because it reflects her values of passion, curiosity, perseverance, and joy for life, and hopes to carry forward Luc’s legacy by living life to the fullest, spending as much time as possible outdoors, and using education to make a positive impact in local communities and our world.
